Cigars and Christianity
Cigars, are they a sin? Being from an Independent Baptist background I already know that answer. Along with playing cards and any sort of gambling is the “devils work”. One time while talking to my former pastor (he’s a great man”) about some situations at that time (which I won't get into on here) I told him “well Pastor I’m independent and fundamental but at the end of the day I’m just not as “Baptist” as you are”. But I digress. I have been sober for 20 years, I owe it all to Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. In the last year I have been smoking cigars. In a way cigars kept me sober, for at times I was ready to “fall off the wagon”, mental health is real let me tell you. I believe with all my heart that God gave me cigars. Now wait before you judge, lol. Let me explain. Cigars have brought me closer to God. Oh I can hear them now “you heathen God would never use a substance such as tobacco to bring you closer to Him.’ Oh you don’t say…..
Colossians 1: 16-17: 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
First off, cigars are made from tobacco. A plant, not a man made object. A GOD made thing. And according to his word He created ALL things. Not just a few things but ALL things. Nicotiana (/ˌnɪkoʊʃiˈeɪnə, nɪˌkoʊ-, -kɒti-, -ˈɑːnə, -ˈænə/[2][3][4]) is a genus of herbaceous plants and shrubs in the family Solanaceae, that is indigenous to the Americas, Australia, Southwestern Africa and the South Pacific. Various Nicotiana species, commonly referred to as tobacco plants, are cultivated as ornamental garden plants. N. tabacum is grown worldwide for the cultivation of tobacco leaves used for manufacturing and producing tobacco products, including cigars, cigarillos, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, dipping tobacco, snuff, and snus.
Like most things on this earth that God gave us, man has misused, manipulated and corrupted. Cigars brought me closer to God by doing one thing that I was avoiding…..being around other Christians.
Hebrews 10:25: not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Its started with a “Holy Smokes” Bible study. Cigars then led me to “The Cigar Assissins’’” which is comprised of many good Christian men. To further God's work they were looking to start a Bible study and someone to run it. Well I just happen to have that experience and gladly to on the task. Now we have “The Leaf of Faith” hangout on The Discord. We meet every 3rd monday of the month at 8pm Eastern. Come my friends, come see what God has in store for you.
I leave you now and until the next time “Stay Smoky My friends” Matty Cigars
